ABOUT THE ARTIST!The substance, the purpose of my art comes from within......the spiritual, religious, unearthly realm where my soul connects with Christ and my art is the result. I try to give a spiritual quality or essence to my work. The spiritual imagery of my art evokes the consciousness and reflection of one's inner self...one's spiritual being. This spirituality enables my artwork to "speak" to the viewer and "feel" the emotion within it. One must not merely "look" at or "imagine" a subject and paint it, but "feel" it's emotion.....live it, breath it, become it! In my studio, the hours fly by past midnight as I paint and I am transcended into another world.....another reality.....my art! My mind can become so transfixed with a subject while creating art that I literally transcend to another state of being. One with God. It is in this state, this elevated mood, that my best works are created. My artistic ability comes from God. And from God, my artwork is created. I connect with the flesh and blood of Christ on a spiritual level and it is in this higher spiritual plane that I create my art. Sometimes the "answer" to a "great" work of art is in the subtleties and not the complexities of it's nature. I create art and I live or I don't create art and I suffer. Hello. My name is Karen Kroplinski and I am an Artist living and creating art in New Jersey. I have a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) Degree from the prestigious Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. While there, I studied under some of the most respected artists in the art world. Although I have studied art formally in NJ, I have also traveled to Europe to view and study the works of the Great Masters. I have even traveled to remote parts of Alaska to observe and photograph wild grizzly bears! Although I work in a variety of media, my favorites are oil paint, charcoal, graphite, oil pastels and ink. I also work in photography using both the traditional camera with film as well as a digital camera and a camcorder. My photographic work has been published in the Rutgers University college magazine as well as the national magazine, "Youth". I am also proud to have had my photographs included in the "Women's Show +2" Exhibit at MORA (Museum of Russian Art). Listening to music while I paint or otherwise make art, plays a major role in creating the mood which I translate into my work. My subjects include religion, spirituality, the human form, wildlife, and the role man's advances in technology play in the way we view art, nature, and life and how we interact with it. The majority of what I paint, draw, or create comes from my imagination, memory, or even my dreams (and sometimes nightmares!) with little or no use of reference photographs. However, I have also worked from live models as well.
