Lately in my life, I have been continually reminded.....perhaps by God......how fragile life is......and to appreciate what "I have"....instead of what I might "want". I believe we receive certain "gifts" from God. My artistic ability I believe is one of them. However, I do feel that God wants us to appreciate and cherish the things that he has given us instead of being "greedy" for more and more. We must all trust God's will. And as such, accept the different aspects of our lives whatever they may be.

Okay! What is more important to a "starving artist"? Food, money, or recognition as an artist....... The first two are short-term fixes, but recognition as an artist can assure one's reputation as "recognizable" . Someone that people are familiar with and whose art they "respect". It can be important for an artist to receive confirmation of his talent and "recognized" for that! Now I must leave this blog and get some food to eat for dinner as "this" starving artist is HUNGRY! LOL! Goodnight all!.
It is thought that the artist creates "works of art". But what truely is a great work of art? What is the content or subject matter of a painting considered to be a "great work of art:? Is a "beautiful" painting of a woman considered a "great" work of art? Or can the subject matter be a little more, shall we say, "controversial"? Is a painting of a horrific "tradgedy" such as war greater than that of a "beautiful nude" ? I think that "Art" means different things to different people. Different personalities. Different mind-sets. It is therefore impossible to define what is "great" in terms of art. Art, as we know, is "subjective". As "beauty" is, subjective. And as such, "great art" is subjective. It is in the mind of every individual who looks at art to determine what that particular "piece" of art means to them.
Sometimes it seems as though by chance, an idea comes along as inspiration for a work of art. As I was looking through a storage bin for some important documents, I came across something sent to me by my brother. And there it was.......an inspiration for another work of art. For the time being, I am keeping it's subject matter a secret! Was this inspiration sent to me by "chance" or is it an artist's "destiny" to work on specific subject matter? That is not for "me" to say, but perhaps the answer lies in the spiritual powers (of God) that be!
How does an artist determine what "size" to make his artwork. Is "size" relevant to the "intensity" of the meaning behind the work of art? Is the artist just more "comfortable" working within a certain parameter of size? Is it merely "quicker" to do a "smaller" piece? For me as an artist, alot of times I feel that in order to "express" the "intensity" and "seriousness" of the subject matter, I must do a large piece! I like the "boldness" of a large piece! However, larger pieces can take alot of time and patience. A large, intricate piece is not an art project to be taken lightly!
The process of actually creating a work of art is a very "physical" feat in itself and this physicality varies in degree according to the "size" and "complexity" of the artwork. The "movement" necessary to create art can be very intense and involve the entire body if the work of art is very large. It is therefore very important for an artist to maintain their physical "health" in order to accomplish this feat of creativity!
The most important thing an Artist can do is believe in himself. Self-dought causes "stagnation" in an Artist's creative process. The next most important thing an Artist can do is get "others" to believe in him as well. It is important to get the word out about yourself and show others what you are capable of doing......what you are capable of creating. It is important to remember that a really talented Artist is capable of producing images in a unique way that most others cannot!
Sometimes I'm asked about my religion, and Christianity, and the Bible, and what it all means and I have to tell you I'm not at all a Biblical Scholar....At least, not yet.......But I "do" know that my art work has alot to do with my "spirituality" and my "spiritual connection" to God, my "faith" in God, and thus, my "BELIEF" in God.
Sometimes our life can truely make us appreciate what we have......instead of wanting what we have not.. When we hear of the tradgedy that happens to others in their lives and somehow life miraculously spares "us" we realize that life on this planet can be very fragile and we can only hope and pray that God spares us and protects us.
The longer I continue to make art, the more I learn about myself. I have determined that in order to make art I must isolate myself completely. Shut myself off from the outside world. So that I am one with myself and spiritually I am one with God. This is what brings out my talent. This is what makes me good at what I do. Creating art.
